I have read S. B. Jacob’s first novel, Because the Devil Loved Eve, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is hard to put down once you have read the first pages. Indeed, it gripped my faculties like my first reading of The Reincarnation of Peter Proud.

The language is precise, the chapters end with hurried anticipation of what is to follow, the characters seem real enough to warrant an urgent visit to Brooklyn - and the plot is impeccable. One is easily left to wonder if this story, which is so seamlessly crafted, is really a work of fiction.

Ms. Jacob has comfortably combined the ancient mysteries of creation with aspects of contemporaneous world phenomena in a smooth unraveling of a veritable epic that unfolds from the biblical Garden of Eden to authentic Brooklyn, from Israel to Africa, from the heavens to the earth. The story involves the timeless virtues of love and forgiveness and the equally eternal vices of lust and hate spawned in a cosmic ambience that leaves the mind in awe and wonderment.

Because the Devil Loved Eve compares with any novel in its genre. It possesses a positive quality that is not often typical in the initial work of a burgeoning author. It is a harbinger, hopefully, of what Ms. Jacob has in store for readers – and the future.
